General Education Diploma

The GED tests individuals in five subject matters, which include Writing, Social Studies, Science, Reading, and Mathematics.  Students that pass all five sections have the academic knowledge and skill level of at least a high school graduate.

To earn a GED, which is also referred to as a General Education Diploma, test takers have to score better than 60% of graduating seniors nationwide within all five subject tests.  Students that pass the GED exam will receive a certificate showing that they’ve passed all five subject exams and meet the education requirements in the state in which they live in.
The official GED test is not offered online and must be completed and passed at one of the 3,200 official locations.  Students must take the exam in a controlled environment that is administered by a GED official.  However, there are many online sites that help individuals prepare for the GED.  These websites offer GED Practice Tests, GED review courses, and GED tutors to help ensure success when individuals do take the test.  If you learn better in an in-class teaching environment then there are GED Prep Courses where actual teachers help you prepare to pass all five subjects in the GED.

Students that are interested in taking the GED test must contact a GED testing center in their local area.  Even though all states require you to pass all five subject matters, each state has its own GED requirements that must be met before you can be considered eligible to take the exam.  Students wanting to take the exam should have a clear understanding of what is required before they complete the necessary paperwork.
Passing the GED provides enormous opportunities for those who have not graduated from high school.   Most Individuals who take the GED often do so with intent to enroll in a college, university, or technical training school.  If you have not graduated from high school, you must take the GED to be considered by any higher learning institution.

Individuals who are not interested in pursuing a post-secondary education, but are interested in a career should highly consider taking the GED exam.  Individuals who have passed the GED have a significant advantage in qualifying for certain careers.  Statistics also show that individuals with a GED have a much higher earnings potential than others without a GED or high school diploma
